The Making of the Great Indian Election. Exclusive meeting with former Chief Election Commissioner of India S.Y. Quraishi in Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elections are presently held in India. These are the largest elections in the world, as 815,000,000 people are entitled to vote. It is also a country with a very high percentage of people using their voting right – more than 70 percent. At the special invitation of the Ambassador, Ms. Monika Kapil Mohta in Poland, a former Chief of the Election Commission, Mr. S.Y. Quirashi was present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this occasion, at a formal dinner at the restaurant Bollywood Lounge organized by IPCCI and ThinkTank, the government representatives, NGOs, academic and business circles met. The guests of honor were Mr. Witold Pietrewicz, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, and Mr. Tomasz Lukaszuk, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The dinner was preceded by Mr. Quirashi\u2019s presentation on the elections in India and a round of questions and answers. The meeting was moderated by Mrs. Ma\u0142gorzata Bonikowska, Partner, ThinkTank and Mr. JJ Singh, IPCCI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a summarizing speech, Ms. Ambassador stressed the important role that the Chief of the Electoral Commission plays in India. His decisions are absolutely obeyed. No one has effect on him, he has full constitutional rights to conduct the election. Even after completing his function he has unique authority. He is an example whose opinion everybody respects. And in India every vote counts. Such a high percentage of the votes is the success of years of education in a society that understands the power it has in their hands. Expressing their willingness to vote they can truly affect their fate. Therefore, every vote is precious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
